Cottonwood, Inc. Holds “DSP For A Day” Event

Cottonwood, Inc. held “DSP for a Day” event on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019.
State Representative Dennis (Boog) Highberger joined Cottonwood, Inc.
for a hands-on job shadow experience.

Cottonwood, Inc. employs over 100 dedicated and talented Direct Support Professionals (DSP) who provide critical services to Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

On September 12, 2019, Cottonwood, Inc. hosted the first in a series of special events – “DSP for a Day”. This unique chance for legislators to shadow Direct Support Professionals offers the opportunity to work hands-on with intellectual and developmental disability service providers across the state.

“This event allows us to show how vital the DSP profession is,” said Sharon Spratt, Cottonwood, Inc. CEO. “A career in direct support is more important now than ever before, and the increased workforce need continues to grow rapidly.”

Direct Support Professionals ensure that persons with disabilities lead self-directed lives, contribute to their communities, assist with activities of daily living, and encourage attitudes and behaviors that enhance community inclusion. Their unwavering commitment to the people they serve enhances the lives of people of all abilities across the state, and across the country.

Cottonwood, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that was established in 1972 to provide services to people with intellectual/developmental disabilities in Douglas and Jefferson counties in Kansas.
