February 23rd, 1989 – Ad Astra Ale cascaded from the taps at Free State Brewery, and 29 years later we are proud to continue serving the Lawrence community. Quite a bit has changed in the world of craft beer since the late 80’s, but Free State has remained creative, consistent and wonderful. The combination of our loyal regulars, tremendous staff, and first time Free Staters keep the spirit lively.
