Position Description: Product Development Engineer
General Description of position: An engineer to lead the design and delivery of new aviation products including, but not limited to the research and development, product design, testing, product quality control, and product support. Will support product teams through the new product development process including, but not limited to, production specifications, design reviews, model development and associated drawings as required. Propose and make ongoing improvements to products, the associated production process and testing equipment as appropriate. Develop and propose new testing, design, manufacturing and aviation product ideas.
Reports to: Engineering Manager.
Primary duties, tasks and responsibilities: • Perform all engineering tasks required to bring new products into production including: o Research, design, development, testing, tooling, manufacturing, ongoing support • Communicate and work with all departments such as purchasing, sales, marketing, manufacturing, quality and customer support as needed in support of our products • Communicate with and provide necessary documentation to FAA personnel for product approval, customers, suppliers and distributors as needed • Follow policies and procedures in the McFarlane Employee Manual, Quality Assurance Manual, Engineering Manual, and Safety Manual
Requirements and skills needed for the position: • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering • Metallurgy and material properties knowledge • Ability to work effectively as a team player on projects assigned • Ability to manage projects personally and work independently • Ability to logically and efficiently frame and solve problems, technical and otherwise • CAD knowledge – solid modeling proficiency preferred, FEA experience is a plus • Good communication skills are required
Additional skills that are helpful but not required: • General aviation experience and an understanding of aircraft systems • Hands on machine and manufacturing processes knowledge • FAA / PMA product certification experience is a plus • Aircraft maintenance experience • Tool design experience • FAA DER
