Kansas Attorney General’s Office to present workshops on July 23, 2019
Lawrence, KS, July 1, 2019– eXplore Lawrence is hosting Human Trafficking Workshops presented by the Office of Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt. The purpose of the workshops is to educate hospitality, travel, and tourism industry employees on human trafficking in Kansas, and provide them with awareness training.
Human trafficking is a form of abuse where people profit from the control and exploitation of others. The International Labor Organization estimates that there are over 40 million victims globally. 80% of human trafficking victims are domestic. 1 in 4 victims is a child. The US Department of Justice has identified Kansas as a state of origin for human trafficking victims. Numerous factors make hotels an ideal place for traffickers to set up shop, and multiple factors give Lawrence the potential to attract traffickers.
Workshops will be offered from 9:00 AM–11:00 AM and 2:00 PM–4:00 PM on Tuesday, July 23 at TownePlace Suites in Downtown Lawrence, Kansas. The workshops are free and space is limited. If you would like to attend, please complete the registration form found here…
