Heartland receives Quality Improvement award, demonstrating high-quality care for all

Lawrence, KS – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced nearly $107 million in Quality Improvement Awards to 1,273 health centers across nearly all U.S. states, territories and the District of Columbia on August 20, 2019. Heartland Community Health Center received an award totaling $112,334 and is recognized as the third highest recipient in the state of Kansas. Quality Improvement Awards (QIAs) are given to the highest performing health centers nationwide as well as those health centers that have made significant quality improvement gains from the previous year

“Today we celebrate the health of our patients,” said Robyn Coventon, Heartland CEO. “It takes an entire team of providers and staff to support patients as they work to become healthier. We have an incredibly smart, dedicated, and compassionate team, and this award reflects their commitment to our patients.”

Coventon went on to say, “We love the fact that we not only get to provide high-quality and affordable health care for everyone in our community, but we also give insured patients the opportunity to financially support patients without insurance. A patient who uses their health insurance at Heartland helps to keep costs low for everyone.”

Heartland served more than 6,000 patients in 2018 and ranks in the top quartile of all health centers in the nation for the quality measures for asthma treatment, tobacco screening & treatment, ischemic vascular disease treatment, placement of child teeth sealants, and depression screening & treatment.

Funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), health centers will use these awards to improve the quality, efficiency, and value of the health care they provide. The purpose of the awards is to develop and improve health center systems and infrastructure and to develop and improve care delivery systems.

Heartland remains grateful for the support of our patients, partners, staff, and community for allowing us to grow and serve in Kansas. To become a patient of Heartland, please call 785-841-7297.
