For Immediate Release:
The Kansas Lions ALERT trailer was one of the first to respond after the May 28th EF-4 tornado, distributing more than $23,000 in goods. In late June, Lawrence Lions Club held a collection event at the Wal-Mart Supercenter to restock the trailer. Lions Club members from Eudora, Lansing, Valley Falls, Kansas City, KS and Olathe joined in. In less than nine hours Lions collected over $500 and 1,000 items including 19 first aid kits, 187 rolls of toilet paper, 169 pounds of dog food, 20 gallons of bleach and 419 bars of soap. In addition to this collection event, over the last year the Lawrence Noon Lions have provided eye exams and glasses for 25 individuals in Douglas County, screened preschool children for eye diseases with the SPOT screener, offered vision screening at the LMH Health Fair and provided financial support to a variety of community organizations.
The Lawrence Lions are currently recruiting members to continue these and other service projects in our community. To find out more, visit a club meeting the first and third Tuesdays at noon at Conroy’s Pub or email lawrencenoonlion@aol.com
